How to cure post-holiday loneliness when you're single

It is sometimes tough being single through the holidays and feelings of loneliness can increase during this season. On the up side at this time of year you're surrounded by family and friends that keep you busy through the festivities, but the down side is not having a special someone by your side at these celebrations.

Even though you may not have a significant other its usually fun to catch up with loved ones and spend quality time together. These gatherings tend to be distracting enough to put your relationship status on the background for a while. Fortunately you can usually count on times of good will and cheer to overshadow any loneliness you might be feeling over the holidays.

The hardest part is for many singles is the post-holiday period when the reunions are over and family and friends go back to their lives. This can be more difficult than getting through the holidays themselves because the emptiness may suddenly feel more pronounced after everyone goes home and things get quiet again.

If you find yourself experiencing some loneliness after the celebrations pass there are a few approaches you can try to help curb those post-holiday blues. Here are a few ways you can use to kiss those blues away:

*Socialize with others

After the holidays are finished why not keep the festivities going? Throw a post-holiday bash and invite some friends over. If you aren't really up to going the big party route, consider a small gathering of a few close friends. Rent some comedies, pop some corn, kick back and have a good time.

If you prefer to get out of the house try arranging a gathering at a local restaurant or pub. Invite good company and choose a place where the food is tasty, music is lively and have yourself a great time. One of the best ways to rid yourself of feeling lonely is to spend quality time with others.

*Take a trip

What better way to wash the blues away than with a splash in a sunny beach destination? If this is too far out of your budget, consider rinsing out those melancholy feelings with a budget weekend getaway.

Many online travel websites offer some pretty terrific deals, especially post-holiday when it is a slower time to travel since many people have just completed holiday travels. The travel industry is usually looking to attract some customers and the price might just be right for a post-holiday pick me up.

*Help others and help yourself

The holidays are a great time for realizing the things you do have while minimizing the things you don't. Why not
