Jobina's Weekend (Chapters 1&2)

Chapter 1

The silence was broken by this startling revelation.

"Hey Bae, I think I'm gay."

Jobina looked up from the textbook she was reading, still holding her forkful of mashed potatoes. She stared at her husband of four years a minute, trying to comprehend what he just said. He was a handsome and fun man. He made her happy and always liked to tease her. She smiled letting a giggle escape.

"That's funny dear," Jobina said, shoving the potatoes into her mouth.

"I'm not kidding. I think I'm gay," Deut said firmly.

Jobina stuck the fork into her mashed potatoes, noticing it stood straight up in them. My husband may not be like this fork, she contemplated.

"Is this some sort of spur of the moment revelation or have you been giving it some thought?" Jobina finally asked.

"It's not an it' and I've been contemplating it a few months now."

"Ok, good. I wouldn't want it to be just off the top of your head. Jobina paused a moment. "Have you done anything about it? Should I be concerned? After all, you've still been with me."

"Well, I've told you if you will consider that doing anything. I haven't consummated anything with anybody if that will ease your mind. This is a deeply set feeling in me. I have tried to suppress it but, now I think it's time for me to be out."

"Ok," Jobina said slowly, "if it's what it is so be it. You know I can't let you stay if you don't want me?"

"Yes, I understand. Would it be alright if I used the sofa just for tonight then?"

"That'll be fine. Want some blankets?"

"Yes, but I'll get them and take care of the dishes too."

"Fine. I guess I'll turn in then. Goodnight."

"But Bae, you haven't finished eating."

Jobina left the table in a daze. She heard her husband speaking but didn't acknowledge him. Her mind was racing. Deuteronomy Carmichael was the love of her life. Her heart was set on him the minute she saw him five years ago. Her passion for him didn't ebb when they got married a year later. How can he think he's gay? How can he be so nonchalant about being gay? How come she wasn't freaking out because he said he thought he was gay? Some part of her felt that it was a joke he was playing on her. She entered her bedroom and kneeled beside her bed.

"God," she prayed, "I know you heard my husband. I pray You will help me not be mad at him tomorrow when he says he was joking. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Jobina crawled into bed and sat up against the headboard waiting for Deut to come in laughing.
