tourism can be the largest income earners for some districts and the loss of native plants and wildlife can seriously damage that areas economy.
You may ask whether the health of a river can affect the vitality of a region? In Australia, it is not the vitality of a "region" that has been affected; it is the vitality of the Nation. Our greatest river system is sick. While both the Federal Government of Australia and the relative State authorities are "looking" into the problems, action is not occurring with the required speed. Many fear that it is too late to save the Murray-Darling Rivers, but most Australians, particularly those living in South Australia and other areas of the river, are demanding more action now. Without that action, the future of this river system appears doomed and that of our nation challenged.
Every area on Earth must learn from the actions of our generation and those that have preceded us. Failure to maintain the health of our river systems will lead to the demise of life on Earth as we now know it.
