Putting the Blame Where it Rightly Belongs!

Oh how easy and tempting it is to blame others for the wrong or bad things that happen in our lives. Especially is that true of blaming God. He is our creator and since he created all other things as well he must be to blame, right? That certainly would be the convenient course, but would it be true? I think deep down we all know that it is not true no matter how much we may want it to be so, especially if we are hurting. At James 1:13 the scriptures tell us "When under trial, let no one say: I am being tried by God.' For with evil things God can not be tried nor does he himself try anyone." Since that is the case God could not be responsible for any evils occurring in our lives. Now we must find where the blame rightly belongs.

Sometimes things can be done to us by others that we have no control over. When being layed-off we don't blame our supervisor, we blame the economy. When a freeze ruins citrus crops and the price of orange juice goes up we don't blame the grocery store, we blame the weather. Other things though are in our control. If there is a sign in the road that says "warning: pass at your own risk" and we plod ahead causing damage to our car there is no doubt that it is our own fault. But did you know that there is a force in us that is also to blame for some of the negative things that happen to us?

Continuing in James 1, verses 14 and 15 it say "But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin" That being the case, if we have a wrong desire, let's say for something that does not belong to us, and we keep thinking on it instead of pushing the thought away it becomes fertile. In other words it begins to grow, and becomes harder to dismiss. That is when we are likely to commit a wrong, possibly stealing. When caught and sentenced for this crime can we blame the system for its laws or do we rightly blame ourselves for not dismissing the wrong thoughts as soon as they came into our consciousness?

There is another one whom we can put some blame on for certain things. That one would be Satan the devil. Revelation 12:9 tells us "So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth" so we can rightly lay some blame at his feet for misleading us, but never - let me say that again - never can we blame God. Deuteronomy 32:4 says it perfectly when it describes Jehovah God "The Rock, perfect is his activity, For all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness, with whom there is no injustice: Righteous and upright is he." When we read at 1John 4:8 that " - - - God is love." we then understand that since God IS love he is not deserving of blame but of our love and worship.
