She had a crush on her first-grade teacher. Her name was Mrs. Woods. Maybe it was the fact that Mrs. Woods told her to keep writing, or maybe it was the Mrs. Woods was her inspiration. She was only six-years-old.
A few years later, she had a crush on a sixth grader who made her want to play better on the court. After that, in 7th grade, it was a crush on a close friend who made her want to act tough and smarter than the boys. There was always someone who made her heart race for no apparent reason.
It wasn't until high school, however, that her deepest crush took over. Sarah was her best friend, her teammate, and through every wrench that high school can throw at you and it threw more than most they remained close. Her mom and dad saw it when her and Sarah talked, but never said a word. She didn't know it was more than friendship. She never thought about how her poetry had intensified, how her emotions deepened, or how moody she had become. She didn't even realize how her heart raced at the thought of seeing Sarah every day. The thought not once had entered her mind that they were more than best friends.
Years later she understood what it all meant. She understood why the boys never looked handsome enough, nor made her heart race. She understood why they never seemed to know how to kiss her, or take her breath away. She was gay, but didn't even know it until the moment she kissed another woman. She was 20-years-old.
I was born gay. Scientifically, it has been nearly proven that some humans are indeed born gay. DNA research is progressing dramatically with every day that passes, and there will no doubt be greater discoveries in the "born gay" genre in the near future. There are so many aspects of the human make-up that we still do not understand, and deciphering whether DNA, RNA, genes, hormones, chromosomes, nature or nurture is the reason for homosexuality, transgendered, or bisexuality will take time.
If it is to be proven without a shadow of a doubt that we are genetically born with an attraction to the same sex, will things change? Will Catholics and Mormons be able to accept the fact that their god has created someone who they'd consider genetically flawed? Does God make mistakes? Why does the discussion of homosexuality always turn to the Bible and the big man upstairs?
Over 450 species of animals in God's great kingdom practice homosexuality: everything from the beautiful red fox to the barn owl and spotted seal. Every civilization since the dawn of man has
