The draft should be reinstated, maybe not like the old one, but, perhaps more like the lottery used during Viet Nam. Every able bodied man and woman should be eligible for it between ages of 18 and 24. The all volunteer service is simply a jumping off place for students to get a free education, lots of cash, and some that really want to serve their country. Our country spends billions advertising for recruits, TV ads, sponsored race teams, radio ads and on and on. Our young people today do not want to waste their time in the service and most could care less about what happens outside the U.S. borders. They are mostly money and career goal seekers. They have seen in past years what kind of turmoil our esteemed government gets us into. In a way you can't blame them for not wanting any part of it.

What it boils down to is loyalty, patriotism, common sense, and wanting to be part of a great nation. Being in the service is a great tool for young people to get and understand discipline, loyalty, manners, trust, and simply great for becoming a responsible adult. Sure Mom and Dad probably don't want you to go, but, you can't always to their apron or cape, get out, grow up and stand on your own two feet. Being in the service in my opinion should happen to everyone possible and physically able. You live in this country and enhance your life greatly by doing so, therefore, you should want to volunteer in the time of crisis. Meeting new people, seeing new states or countries can be part of a great education and learning tool. New cultures, historic sites, languages, styles and most of all gaining of how to treat different people. You get to pick what area of training you want and this goes toward furthering your education when you get out. Today's service is a lot different from years gone by. Today they have nice quarters for you to live, good food, excellent training, toned down instructors and even in some cases nicer looking clothing.

Our esteemed law makers need to set up a lottery system and replenish our military with a mixture of people from our nation. If you are a legal citizen between 18 and 24 you should have to register and if called, serve with pride and dignity. If you here illegally you should be sent home to your country for treatment of the same.If more of the illegals in this country served their own country, the United States wouldn't have to fight foreign country battles all the time, the embattled country would have troops of their own to use. That would be good for all concerned. Put the draft back into law.
