Oops he did it again! It seems Barry Bonds has ingested (unknowingly of course) another illegal substance. This time it was greenies or "Uppers" a long time staple in baseball made illegal prior to the 2006 season. Never mind it is likely they are illegal in their own right. The real issue it seems is baseball has determined finally that they are bad.
Mr. Bonds seems to have a penchant for bad luck. He attracts it like a magnet, one unfortunate situation after the other. First it was the "Clear" a steroid which is illegal. He believed it was flax seed oil or so he claims. Now I admit I never have used flax seed oil however I'm willing to bet that since it is an over the counter substance it can be obtained easily. Mr. Bonds paid the hefty sum of $10,000.00 for this substance. I suppose it was $10.00 for the product and $9,990.00 for the delivery. He stated initially he just used this and didn't know what it was.
He also used the same service it would seem to get the "Anti inflammatories" he used to help ease his arthritis. Now we are supposed to believe his teammate Mark Sweeney happened to have a bottle of illegal greenies hanging around that he took a few of, again without knowing what they were. It seems Bonds never learned the lesson most of us did as children to not put things in your mouth if you don't know what they are. Of course within a day he claimed he never said Sweeney was in any way involved but the damage was done.
Bonds must take us all for fools. Granted drugs and supplements have been a dirty secret in baseball since the end of world war two in varying degrees. We may not want to admit it but many of our heroes of the past 60 years have used something to help get by. The fact that most of those substances were legal in all regards back then eases some of the tension but doesn't change the fact. The point is now they are illegal in all regards. A ten year old baseball fan can tell you what substances are on the banned list and the penalties they carry. Does this mean they are smarter than Bonds? Not in any sense. What it does demonstrate is that if a young fan knows this Bonds does as well and chose to disregard the rules. It means he knowingly cheated. It means he has given the game a black eye and while reluctantly forced to cheer the countdown to Aaron many people would rather see him simply retire. I've certainly heard people voice their wishes for worse.
Barry Bonds, the son of Bobby Bonds and godson of Willie Mays, has been around the game his whole life. He knows better. Don't let the innocent smile and shoulder shrug fool you. A professional athlete knows exactly what they are putting in their body. Their body is their career and very good one in Bonds case. Not one person on earth honestly believes he's just the victim of random bad luck and such a nice guy he trusts people so implicitly he'll take or do whatever they say. This is a guy generally disliked by his peers, an adulterer, suspected perjurer, substance abuser, and a player considered by many baseball higher ups a cancer to his team. The fact is if he wasn't chasing Aaron's home run record nobody would sign this guy. he has a job for one reason right now, put butts in the seats and sell those concessions. When and if he passes Aaron the gravy train is over.
Now people may assume I have some agenda for taking such issue with Bonds, and in all honesty I do. He cheated. He has been a disgrace to the one game on earth I truly love. Worst of all he expects someone like me, a former fan of his and long time supporter to overlook all this just because he is who he is. He is dead wrong, at least in my case.
