Adsense typically requires some degree of previous success in order to achieve any additional success. The reason for this is that you usually need a high volume of quality traffic in order to turn any real sales. We've all been exposed to various adsense ads many times before and as a result we tend to tune them out. This means that in order to make any real sales, not only will you need a continuous stream of "fresh" prospects but you will also need to have a large amount of content on your site in order to make the ads on topic.
Starting out, Adsense will most likely only drive your readers away. Without being strongly established or at least having a clever layout and effective way to drive traffic to your site, you'll be watching pennies rather then dollars. Making money on-line requires a lot of legwork in the intrum if you ever intend on raking in the "easy cash". You need to get your name out there and have a strong backing of loyal readers and/or customers that trust and respect you. There are tons of ways to get known on-line, but every single one of them requires diligence to bring to fruition. You need to stay on top of your material as well as provide knowledgeable and helpful answers to any questions sent your way.
Once you've become a bit established with your own website and reader base, you might consider testing out some adsense ads. Make sure you have an accurate record of your traffic to date, then insert a SMALL area of adsense coding. Monitor your traffic throughout the next week or two to see if this addition changed your traffic at all. If things are the same or better, go ahead and add in a bit more coding. It's important to choose strategic areas to place these ads, as random advertisements are a great way to drive away a potential reader or customer. Monitor your traffic and question your readers on how they feel about the ads. As stated before, unless you're previously established you won't earn very much at all from adsense. This is just some nice extra change each month if you can get the basics down, and maybe in a year or so you will have the volume of traffic necessary to make any real money.
There are many different ways to make money on-line, so don't rely just on adsense to bring it to you. Do some research and find what works best for you. Try to have at least a few different things going at once so you can leverage the profits and systems together towards your benefit. Adsense isn't right for everyone, and for some it's downright wrong. Understanding your readers / customers as well as your material / product is paramount to your success on-line.
