All about vampires and vampirism

vampire is Byroneque without all that bother with actually being literary. It is a young adult novel which means that it is easy to read, unchallenging, and fairly prosaic. There aren't supposed to be any real surprises. If one has read the NEW WAVE of vampire fiction with Hamilton's Anita Blake, or Harrison's The Hollows series, Banks' Vampire Huntress or Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels, or even Butler's Dresden series, one can see that Meyers is really just the visible tip of an iceberg. Meyers blends the teen romance and the occult novel with limited grace and style, but it has a huge appeal because she keeps the hero and heroine struggling with the teenage angst and frustration of forbidden romance. This NEW WAVE of vampire stories owes itself to the orginal fusion cuisine we tasted first when we went to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer buffet. Josh Whedon skillfully blended the teen angst of The Breakfast Club with some edgy vampire stuff and came out with witty and incisive stories. When Buffy and Angel are hot and heavy, we not only get that edgy forbidden romance stuff, but we also get a whole purpose-driven crisis. Angel, like Edward, is a "good" vampire, a vampire who tries to shed his evil ways in order to be more human. But the Buffy also gets her slayer groove on for bad boy Spike. And here we see Josh Whedon at his best because now there are more layers to the realtionship than a parfait ("Everyone likes parfait!").

SO YOU WANT TO BE A VAMPIRE HUNTER?

Being a great vampire Hunter means choosing the kind of vampire you're hunting. I'll stick to basically three kinds of vampires and you decide which kind you want to hunt down and slay.

Dracula

In the model of Doctor van Helsing, that wise old man, hunting this vicious and urbane kind of vampire means being devout and scientific at the same time. Your best tools are your wide knowledge of folklore and religion. Arm yourself with consecrated hosts, roses, garlic, religious medals, crucifixes and holy water. Instead, be a detective and destroy his lairs one by one, for this vampire must return to a coffin with dirt from his burial inside. It will undoubtedly come down to a physical battle. Attack during daylight hours, for at night, his powers are too great. Any weapons will do fine, for Dracula was killed when he was sheared through the throat and a bowie knife was plunged into his heart. Cut off the head. Stab the heart.
