Spring is the season of new beginnings. After a cold and harsh winter, grass begins to creep out of the soil once again, and trees and flowers bloom as well. It is a season for hope and fresh, brand new starts. A simple way to incorporate the essence of spring into your life is by doing some spring cleaning. Spring cleaning can provide you with a sense of a clean and fresh lifestyle as reflected by your closet space. Spring cleaning can also help you achieve a deep sense of personal satisfaction when you find your closet space organized instead of cluttered, above all you will not have to feel like you never seem to have enough closet space.

To start off your spring cleaning project, you want to assess what it is that you really need that is sitting in your closets. Ask yourself "do I absolutely need all of the things in this closet?"

• If you answered "no" to the question, begin by separating those things that you do need from those you don't. One way you can determine if you should get rid of an item is by trying to remember how long it has been since you used it last. If you find something that you have not used lately, you might want to reconsider keeping it. All of the items you don't use could be donated to local thrift stores where surely others will find them useful. By clearing out your closet space of unused items, not only will you have more room for what you do need, but you will also have the peace of mind knowing that someone else will use these things. In addition, by doing some spring cleaning, getting rid of the old opens the doors for new and better things to come into your life.

Maybe you found that you cleared out a lot of items, but your closet space is still limited, in that case:

• If you answered "yes" to the question, my best advice is a Mexican saying that I grew up with: "everything fits in a small jar if you know how to place the contents efficiently." You can begin your spring cleaning by sorting out your items into groups and keep them organized in such a way that you can always find them in groups. At your local supermarket you can purchase wire storage cubes that you can use to place your folded t-shirts, blouses, shorts, or anything that does not need to be hung. This way you open closet space at the top for other things and you are using your space more efficiently. Getting shoe racks can also be helpful because it helps you keep the shoes together and neatly stacked against a wall.

As you have seen, spring cleaning is more than just organizing and having a roomier closet space. Spring cleaning is also a mental attitude that can leave you with a great sense of satisfaction and abundant closet space.
