Dining on a cruise ship

overeat. Even when I wasn't hungry, the tantalizing aroma of warm, yeasty breads called to me, begging to be slathered with that rich butter. I've always had a love affair with bread, and I absolutely fell head over heels for the cruise ship butter.

In addition to several dining locations around the ship, there was room service. Even if you didn't want to leave your cabin, a succulent meal or snack was always just a phone call away. And I haven't even mentioned the beverages: tall frosty tropical drinks, gourmet coffees topped with real whipped cream, rich hot chocolates, imported beers and wines. It seemed to never end.

On our cruise, we found just about any food we could imagine: fried shrimp, broiled steaks, turkey and stuffing, roast beef, baked ham, lasagna, fried chicken, barbecued ribs, roast pork loin, crab-stuffed chicken breasts, Asian cuisine, Mexican food, pasta salads, exotic fruits, sandwiches, all kinds of breads, and scrumptious desserts. And did I mention the butter?

On the last day of our vacation, I discovered why the butter was so good. It was imported from Switzerland. I don't know what they feed those Swiss cows, but I hope American dairymen never catch on. If I had access to that creamy product all the time, I would probably sink a cruise ship. Now I know how I gained 13 pounds in four days.
