How to plan a memorable Christmas party

Planning a memorable Christmas party is not as difficult as it may seem.

Some years back I volunteered to help plan the company Christmas party for a company I worked for. At the time I volunteered I didn't plan on nor intended to take over the task of being in charge but it during the first meeting of the planning committee I was appointed to that task. As the company was going to be closing shortly I made the comment that this had to be the best and most memorable party we'd ever had. I was instantly put in charge.

Now, my Mom had raised me on the thought that no matter what you do, do it with class. And, this Christmas party was no different the fact is I was a shop rat'. If your not familiar with the term that is a slang phrase used for people who work in a factory or shop. All the more reason I felt to make this a memorable Christmas party. Although it would be over 200 blue collar workers there was no reason at all why it shouldn't be planned the same way a party for the big wigs in the corporation we never rubbed elbows with would be planned

The first thing on the list was to plan the night. We started out by getting a caterer to provide dinner we got a great price and gave our guests a choice of dishes including beef, chicken, and ham. Side dishes included several different salads, fruits, and potato dishes. For desert we ordered a sheet cake that was half chocolate and half white cake.

There would be alcohol served, we provided beer on tap and then there was a bar for drinks to be purchased. We, meaning the planning committee also provided a wide range of soda pop. Because of the alcohol consumption we/I insisted there be food available after dinner also so also purchased a wide variety of chips, crackers, cheese, peanuts, and pretzels. There were small bowls of these along with assorted mints placed in small bowls on all of the tables and one person was put in charge of keeping those filled until the end of the party.

Next on the list of important and key features of the memorable Christmas party was a DJ, disc jockey, who was willing to follow directions, was willing to work with us as a partner not just and employee or in charge of every thing. We got lucky and were able to hire just such a DJ and I met with him before we hired him to let him know exactly what I expected. He did an excellent job of following my cues and during lulls' in the night he managed to keep things alive and moving.

We had cocktail' music before and during dinner. Easy listening
