Humor: Mourning

WHEN PEOPLE JUST DON"T GET THE JOKE

On Tuesday of this week the Very Unreverend 'Jocularity' delivered the following sad and gloomy sermon:

"It is with a profound sense of loss that we mourn the passing of our dear friend 'Humour'. 'Humour' was a man unfettered by the normal restrictions of society and added much to the grey landscape that some of us endure on a daily basis. Humour's legacy is his four children from his first marriage, 'Satire', 'Sarcasm', 'Farce' and 'Bufoonery'. His first wife 'Wit' revealed with much love and affection how she was first introduced to 'Humour' by her best friend 'Comedy' and even though 'Humour' and 'Wit' are no longer together, they shared a common bond that every man could see".

"His beautiful second wife 'Jest' cannot be here today as her battle with 'Depression', 'Banality', 'Political Correctness' and 'Sadness' has taken its toll. The confrontation in the legal courts over custody of their two children, 'Hope' and 'Joy' may be the reason for 'Humour's' early demise and is definitely the driving force behind 'Jest's' current malaise."

"Shortly we will hear a eulogy from two of his friends 'Joker' and 'Funny' who have promised to keep it short and sweet with a minimal amount of one-liners."

"With 'Humour's' passing, the last remnants of his Grand Parents, 'Fun' and 'Frivolity' seem to have disappeared from our lives and the world seems to be a lot darker place because of it. His Grandsons, 'Happy' and 'Smiley' have seen the shadow of ponderous melancholy envelope their lives and it is a shadow that only the memory of 'Humour' can dissipate."

"'Humour' was many things to many people but you had to be willing to let him in to benefit from his presence. I think another of his friends 'Laughter' said it best, 'It's a joke Joyce, build a bridge and get over it'. The ideal world for 'Humour' would have been where laughing gas was on tap and misery was resigned to the pages of history. His glass was never half empty or half full, it was always overflowing with passion and and a zest for life. He always backed down from a fight, allowing his freedom of expression to win the day. 'Humour' was and still is the spark that fires our engine. The emotion that fills our world. For you can be sad, lonely or even sick but 'Humour' would always save the day."

"And so on this day of tears and sadness, of memories of jokes long forgotten, let me tell you that if you didn't get 'Humour', look into your soul and take out the words 'Too Serious'. Your life will be a lot better for it."
