A Rose for the Doctor
I place a red glass of wine and rose
Next to the phone. On call tonight.
A sacrifice. Who really pays?
Dinner for one,
Silence fills the empty space,
Cigarette ashes fall to the floor,
A need to be touched;
Not left alone
In a buzzing cafe,
As I wish for only him,
Next to me.
Stilll, I wait...
Wallowing in my own weakness, the night winds
Push me further home;
Sea cascades over my
Tired toes and I cry salty tears;
As I glance up
Angels have brightened the stars;
Slowly vanishing behind the moon,
You don't call. Your work
Demands your body and mind.
And still, I wait...
Exhausted, you enter.
A rose caresses me;
Your raven eyes trace my body.
Why won't you let me move?
You answer only with a kiss,
A tear falls down my cheek,
I remove your white coat and scrubs
Taken by your secretive breath,
You intoxicate me, as I rub
Your chest until you carry me to our bed.
Our dreams dance amidst northern stars,
Two bodies;
An intangible union in the dark;
Blind to reality.
We soar in an imperfect world.
