Firstly, you need to pick an appropriate affiliate program that best suits your niche. Don't expect to sell clothes on a site where your niche is computer programming. Although some affiliate programs pay significantly higher, it doesn't mean that it's the best program out there. You need to pick the right type of program which matches your niche well.

There are some programs which pay $1 per sale, but if you can manage to get 100 people to sign up everyday, then you will be making $100/day. Similarly there can be an affiliate program paying $300 per sale, but if you sell one every month that's $300 per month only. Secondly, there is tough competition for some types of topics such as making money, diets, electronics and online gambling sites. If you want to sell products in these categories then you have to be the very best to make money. It is important to find out who the competition is, to really make money. It is easy to say that no one can make money in affiliate marketing, but there are people every day who prove this statement wrong by making millions of dollars by selling products which they don't even own.

Lastly, you need to have the right mind set. If you start a business with the hopes of failing, then no there is no money in affiliate marketing for you. As long as new products are being launched, affiliate marketers will get money to promote the products or ideas. Not a lot of businesses have the ability to sell products by themselves, and they need you and me to promote their products for which they are willing to pay a cut from their profits. If you ask a successful affiliate marketer, then you will get positive answers. Likewise, if you ask someone who never put in the hard work and effort, you will get a negative response.

In conclusion, yes there is money to be made with the right type of affiliate program, if you are dedicated, have the appropriate traffic/niche and the right type of mind set towards the business.
