Characters: 15-year-old Jack and his 10-year-old brother Ben, the other kids, Frank (the Dad), Mom (Shelley) and her friend (Beth).
Setting: The Dawson family lives on a dead end street in a small rural neighborhood. It's Saturday afternoon and Shelley has just unloaded the clothes from the dryer into a laundry basket, when her best friend Beth stops by for a visit.
Shelley: "Hey, what's up?" (as her friend let's herself in the back door)
Beth: "Not much. I just thought I'd stop by and see what you're up to." (hanging her coat on the hook by the door)
Shelley: "I'm just doing my usual Saturday chores." (lifts the laundry basket and carry's it to the dining room table for folding)
Beth: "Where are the boys?" (following her into the dining room)
Shelley: "They're out in the garage working on their mystery project."
Beth: "Ah, how's the super-sled coming along?"
Shelley: "I haven't seen it yet, but Frank has had his hand in it a few times. He said they're doing a really nice job on it."
Beth: "Whatever possessed them to build their own sled anyway?"
Shelley: "Frank took them to watch a sledding competition last winter and they've been set on doing this ever since. They are building it completely out of heavy duty cardboard."
Beth: "Hard to imagine what it'll be like."
Shelley: "They've been pretty geeked up about it."
Beth: "Well, I suppose there are worse things that boys their age could be doing."
Shelley: "Yeah, isn't that the truth."
(just then the back door bursts open)
Ben: "Mom! Dad! It's done! Can we go sledding?"
Jack: "Where's Dad? Oh, hi Beth."
Shelley: "He's just pulling in the driveway. He was gone to the store for me."
(Ben runs to meet his Dad as he's coming in the back door with a bag of groceries)
Ben: "Dad! Dad! The sled is done! Come see!"
Frank: "Ok, ok, let me put these things down first. Hi Beth, I'll be right back." (sets the bag on the counter and turns to go out to the garage)
Shelley: "Oh no you don't, we want to see too! Come on Beth!" (they follow Frank and the boys out to the garage)
Scene 2: Scraps of cardboard are scattered all over the garage and there is red, white and blue paint splattered on the floor of the garage. Everyone is gathered around the masterpiece in the center.
Frank: "Wow, pretty impressive guys!"
Shelley: "Wow! That is pretty sweet! We'll need to get some pictures of this!"
Ben: "Can we go sledding now Dad?" "Can we, can we?"
Jack: "He wanted to go before the paint was even dry!" (laughing)
Beth: "So, can you both actually fit inside this
