Returning Holiday Gifts
Two college girls are walking in the mall entrance talking.
Jan: "You know what I like about Christmas shopping, Valerie? It is the day after Christmas when I get to take all the gifts back that people give me. Then I can get what I really wanted in the first place."
Valerie: "Jan, that sounds terrible."
Jan: "Well, maybe so, but that is how I feel. Just look at this horrid sweater Aunt Grace bought for me. I would never wear it. It is all the wrong colors and it looks, well it looks, frumpy, that's what!"
Valerie: "I think it is lovely! It is so soft, and I bet it would be really warm. You should take it back to college with you. It is perfect for the weather there. That is probably what she was thinking about."
Jan: "You think I would be seen in this at college? No way! Not on my life!"
They approach the entrance of the department store where Jan is going to return the sweater.
Jan: "Oh no, Valerie! There is Aunt Grace! What will I do? She is sure to ask me about the sweater."
Valerie: "Tell her the truth."
Jan: "Oh no, I couldn't do that! It will hurt her feelings. She is a real drama queen too. She would probably start crying, pull out her cloth hanky from the sixties, and embarrass me to death. I would just die!"
Valerie: "I think someone else is the drama queen. Well, whatever you are going to do, you better do quickly; she is coming your way."
Jan: "Oh no, has she seen me?"
Valerie: "No, she stopped to look at a sale rack."
Jan: "I know what I'll do!" She quickly takes the pullover from the bag and puts it on. She smoothes her hair out and smiles sheepishly.
Valerie: "You big hypocrite!"
Jan: "Don't say anything!"
Valerie: "Don't worry, I won't."
The older lady approaches the two young girls and gives Jan a big hug.
Aunt Grace: "I'm so glad to see you. I'm glad you like the sweater. I would think it is a bit warm for the climate here though. I was thinking it would be cozy to wear when you go back to school."
Valerie smiles at Jan who rolls her eyes at her in return.
Jan: "Oh, I was feeling a bit chilled and, and, it is always cold in the mall." She stutters.
Aunt Grace: "I didn't get to visit with you very much on Christmas day, Dear. Maybe since you're feeling a bit chilled, you could use some hot chocolate. I am dying for a cup of coffee myself."
Jan: "Well, I don't know, Valerie may not have much time."
Valerie: "I would love some hot chocolate. By the way, I am Valerie. I am a friend of Jan's from college. You must be Aunt Grace. Jan was telling
