How Can I Miss What I've Never Had

I miss the morning chat across the breakfast table,

I miss the planning of our day.

The handholding and the morning kiss

I miss the way your eyes meet mine.

I love the mornings with you.

When the noon hour approaches, I miss seeing your face.

I miss the surprise touches, the tender kisses.

I miss the way you take me out to lunch,

The silly things you say and the way you smile.

I love the afternoons with you.

The evening times I miss you in the same way.

I miss watching a movie, the popcorn, and the laughs.

I miss the way we cuddle together, just feeling our hearts,

The way you say my name, the way you say "I love you".

I love the nighttimes with you.

Yet all these things as beautiful as they are-are things that never were.

The mornings, the midday, the evenings all never happened.

Even though we love each other and want to do it all,

We have done none of this together.

How can I miss what I've never had?
