Holiday's often spark a lot of mixed emotions in the world which we live today, and along with that, the vast spectrum of what Christmas is all about. There are, of course, the fanatics who have their decorations, shopping, tree and such all ready to go months in advance on one end. Then without fail there are the late shopper's wandering around on Christmas Eve in what sometimes seems to be an almost frantic state of mind. Yes, Christmas can be a joyful yet stressfull event. Living on a fixed income or tight budget doesn't seem to make it any easier either, but it also doesn't mean you should become the Grinch. I have listed several ways to enjoy the Christmas Spirit, at little to no cost. Remember, CHRIST is in the word Christmas, and anything done with a giving heart would surely be cherished.
GIFT EXCHANGE- This is a great way for adults to ease the burden of gift giving in large families, and to ensure everyone receives a gift as well. There is the obvious example of putting everyone's name in a hat and drawing to see whom to buy a gift for. Make sure to set a reasonable budget for everyone involved as well. A few variations could be having the men's name only in the draw, and each taking his turn; then repeated for the women. Therefore the outcome is men buying for men and vice versa. You could also do a 'gender swap' whereas women choose from the men's hat, men choose from the women's and soforth. Make your gift exchange creative also by setting a theme. An example could be using the movie "A Christmas Story" and buying gifts related to the theme. It is a sure way to have a few laughs, in the very least, as well as a memorable Christmas. You get the idea!
QUANTITY vs QUALITY?- Believe it or not, quality does not always outweigh quantity. In a lot of cases, a few less expensive item's prove to be far more useful than a more expensive gift. Practicality of a gift being given or received will always offer the reassurance your gift will be enjoyed as well as useful. Do your research! Often times in everyday conversations people may disclose a little hidden ' wish-list'. Remember, no gift is too small, or inexpensive. Everday household items are usually inexpensive, and combining a few items together in a basket, tin, or decorative bag etc. is one of my personal favorites. I have included a few ideas that are a favorite among many.
One example is buying (or baking) one or a few varieties of breads (muffins, bagels, rolls) and include a jar of preserves, jelly, and
