Christmas 2008: Ways to have a joyful Christmas while in a recession

go one at a time and before they hang their ornament on the tree have them give a small recollection of their most memorable christmas memory. I bet everyone will enjoy this and have some great flashbacks they might have since forgotten.

3) SCENTS OF CHRISTMAS: The smell of christmas is what most of our memories are made of. The evergreen air or odor released by the oven from the baking of cookie batter can bring back memories of so many past christmas seasons. For hardly any money at all you can buy these scents in the form of candles and burn them in your home and have the smell of christmas the entire season, keeping everyone in high spirits when they walk in the door.

4) HOLIDAY PARTY: Most will not have a holiday party this season because they believe they cannot afford it. Nonsense! You can still have that party, except this year make it a pot luck and have everyone bring their own special dish. On top of that each person can bring whatever it is they will be drinking that evening. This saves you, the host or hostess, some major funds that you would normally be dishing out just to please everyone's different tastes.

After dinner, you can still have that favorite tradition of the "White Elephant" gift exchange without spending any money. This year instead of $5 or $10 gifts, make the rule of the gifts having to be homemade. This will bring out everyone's creativity. You will be shocked at what people can make and how many fun laughs everyone will get from creating the gift and opening it.

5) GO TO CHURCH: Sadly, in this day and age many will frown upon this. I know many of us, myself included, throughout the year get very busy and forget to include god and religion in our lives. However, what better time to remember that christmas is the celebration of the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ.

One thing I have learned in my journeys is that no matter how much we tend to forget about God and Jesus, they never forget about us. We have all been at the crossroads, especially now with this economic crisis, where we have questioned our belief in the lord because of hardships we are encountering. It is almost comical because we never question that belief when things are going well in our life. What a great time for us to renew our faith in our lord. Remember with every hardship comes a lesson that will take us to a better place in our life if we are patient and trust in ourselves and the lord.

If you still feel guilty that you have shut Jesus out of your life for too
