GREEN BUDS

Failure and loss, distort and downcast

Assets once steadfast now vaporised fast

Chattels of toil washed wickedly away

Gathering dark clouds shroud light and the day.

Struggle sweat wasted, dreams shattered crushed

Labour long languished, effort now hushed

Vainly in striving, hard work all for nought

Despair, desperate, doomed at what fate has now wrought.

Nature too holds great wealth in forests so vast

Created by time, power, strength, meant to last

Yet destroyed by a flicker that reduced to ashes

Many years of endeavour, that furnace now trashes

Yet barely one sunset past tragedy so great

Nature proves in defiance its unconquerable trait

Revival, renewal, rebirthing it copes

Green buds through the ashes, a message of hope

Sands sift ever downward as spirit ebbs away

When gaze is so fixed on that black smouldering day

Seek rather search and in looking see

Green buds of new life now growing in thee.
