Can you have a party without music? I have often wondered about this question, living in a second floor flat and having one too many parties, and annoying my downstairs neighbor one too many times! Unfortunately, I am too scared that my party will be a massive let down to even try it!
Personally, I didn't understand why she complained so much! She never used to work at weekends, she was invited every time and she didn't have children to wake up! She always used to complain that my music was too loud at about 8pm! On a Friday and Saturday night! Now, I don't know about you, but at that time on the weekend, my night is only just beginning!
I often asked her why she had a problem with my music at that time of night and she always laughed about it and said it wasn't her type of music. I then had a thought - find out what her style of music was and play that. And hey presto, I didn't get a single complaint! Well, not from her anyway! My party people had a little something to say while we were dancing to classical music on a Friday night!
It got me thinking though, is the music really that important for a party? I thought that it was about the company and the conversation, but it turns out the wrong sort of music can really have a devastating effect on the party mood!
Why is that though? Why should the music be that important? All of a sudden, I wondered how terrible it must be for deaf people. I wondered how I'd manage to get along with things that I take for granted right now when I can hear everything. The first thing I do in the morning is put the radio on. I love having that background music, it makes e feel less lonely and my flat seems so big when my other half is at work. It's as though the music keeps me company. I love singing along whilst doing my daily chores and I know that I'd rather have the radio on than the television.
Could you live without music? We all have a favorite song, but have you ever thought of the reasons why it is your favorite song? Mine is because it's the song I walked down the aisle to when I got married. It always makes me smile. There are songs that make me cry too and I think it is amazing how one song can have such an effect on your mood.
I personally, don't think I could ever live without music, and losing my hearing would be so devastating to me. I think so many people take that background noise for granted though, and every now and again, I think we should sit and listen to a song that makes us smile and really appreciate the hard work that went into making it! After all, think of how it would effect everybody if all of a sudden, music was stopped. Imagine a world where people weren't allowed to sign or even whistle! Wouldn't it be a quieter place?
