Christmas is a season of giving and joy but seldom do we experience it. More often, we experience the headaches of long lines and the joyless crowds of people pushing to get presents. Christmas can bring out the best in people but sadly, it also brings out the worst as well. We see crowds of people pushing, shoving, and fighting over purchasing presents. In many ways, I hate the Christmas shopping season, dealing with the crowds and the rudeness of it all. For me, it sometimes eclipses the reality of the Christmas season. So how can we do our Christmas shopping without losing our sanity?
Avoid Last Minute Shopping like the Plague
One of the worst things you can do at Christmas is wait until the last minute. We have all done it before and we hate it. There is always something was forgotten and we are out on Christmas Eve. Lines are longer, people are short tempered, and the selection is less than spectacular. Waiting until the last minute guarantees more stress and less enjoying the season. Avoiding this disaster is simple, start early and shop often. Dividing the task of Christmas shopping into smaller sections and over time makes it both easier and more enjoyable.
Take Advantage of Extended Hours
You may like being in the midst of large crowds for your holiday shopping. There are many who do not like being elbow to elbow with people while they are shopping. For those who dislike the crowds be sure to shop during less crowded times. Many stores offer extended hours, so go early. Early morning times often offer the best selection and the best prices. There are often special offers during morning hours to encourage shoppers to come out early.
Some stores offer twenty four hour service and you can shop in the middle of the night. These are some of the least crowded times for going to stores like Wal-Mart because stores are virtually empty. One thing to keep in mind is many of the specialty departments such as, jewelry and specialty sporting goods, will be closed but the rest of the store is fair game.
Watch for Sales
We are all familiar with the specials offered on Black Friday (the Friday after Thanksgiving) because we have seen the advertisements. However, you may not be familiar with Cyber Monday (the Monday following Thanksgiving) as one of the busiest shopping days online. There are a number of specials and discounts offered just on this day to encourage more people to shop online.
Christmas is the busiest shopping season for retailers and often they offer incredible bargains to lure shoppers into their stores. Watch for the sales and special offers to help save money during the Christmas season.
Do Some Shopping Online
Shopping online is an easy way to accomplish a great deal in a little amount of time. There are special bargains that are only available online which pays to check out. Retailers are offering free shipping or other discounts that can offset the cost of shipping. Online shopping has a number of benefits: no crowds to fight, no searching endlessly for items because the stock is shown before you buy and you will save time. The best part is that you will definitely save money on gasoline and you might even save money on taxes. Many online purchases are tax free.
Remember that Christmas is a season of giving and joy. Holiday shopping can be a hassle and become a serious irritation. By doing these few simple things you can turn the hassles into an enjoyable experience.
