Train travel.

Did you know that you can save as much as 35 per cent if you book in advance. The reason for this is that it is helpful to the railway companies to know what amount of transport is needed in advance. The railway companies give discounts for this knowledge, and that's a great deal of savings to be made by commuters who have the sense to book up in advance.

Amtrak offers a point system which can help travelers to cut down on their costs at Christmas and if you collect these valuable points, this really can help spread the cost. They also offer weekly deals on their website, and if you are one of the fortunate travelers who wants to travel on any of the displayed special deals, it may be worth changing your dates just to fit in with the deals. Flexibility is the key to saving money on travel, and if you can move your holiday one day forward or back, checking the prices, you can save a fortune.

Air travel.

Your points from Amtrak can also save you a fortune on air travel. It is wise to have an account with Amtrak as the points you build up all year can be cashed in against your holiday travel and are rewarded in the form of air miles. Shopping with companies who give air miles also means that you can get reductions in the price you pay for flights.

Try several websites for flight price comparisons as the price of flights really does vary. Booking in advance will help to cut down costs, though never accept the first price given. If you flip backwards and forwards changing your start date or your return date, you can save a lot of money. Look for promotional deals before booking standard bookings as often there are better deals to be found here.

Car travel.

Traveling with others always saves money. If you know others who want to go to the same destination, you can share expenses. This means effectively less traffic on the roads, and also helps you
