The confederate flag should be permanently removed from American society for a lot of reasons. Anyone who says the flag represents anything besides hatred, racism, and succession from the United States must be either high on dangerous narcotics, a bigot, or anti-american. The "stars and bars" as it isaffectionately called by its supporters does not represent anything positive whatsoever.
The confederacy broke away from and went to war with the United States of America over archaic ideas of racial superiority and the upper class of the south who preferred to not pay its work force. Abraham Lincoln wasassassinatedby people who were upset by the American Government effectively beginning a long journey towards equality for all Americans. As a white second generation American, I am deeply upset that people still chose to fly this flag or hang it in their window, while they hold on as tight as possible to some twisted idea of an era when things were better. The sad truth is that their life was not better back then, unless having some one lower than you in society makes your life great. To be clear southern society at the time had an elite ruling wealthy class who controlled everything, including them as they needed the wealthy white men who hired them to do their dirty work.
Aside from their confusion over what "their" flag really means, the fact still remains that the confederate flag represents treason against our nation. If someone flew a flag that represented Al-quida in their front yard, the police would have to be called to keep the general public from torching their house. Why? Because it represents terrorism, and took American lives and led us to war. The confederate flag represents all of that and yet a good sized population of the United States still believe that it is a great idea to fly it.
Maybe the flag should not be banned for the reason of freedom of speech but it should not be flown by any citizen who truly loves this country, as it represents a belief that our nation shoulddisintegrateallowing for the south to have autonomy. Besides that the notion that the south could return to its past ispreposterousas the majority of its population is not white and a good portion of those who are do not supportintoleranceand hatred. The craziest part of the whole controversy is that the flag is seen the most in a section of our nation known as the bible belt. Christians are supposed to believe in loving their neighbor, not wanting to enslave them for their personal gain. Again another instance of ignorant white southerners who lash out at the world, I believe, as a direct result of their inbreeding, badhygiene, inability to read or form sentences, and who may in fact provide science with the missing link to the chimps. So people get with the times, our skin is a different color because of our ancestors prolonged exposure to the sun over generations not because one race is better or deserves special treatment. I know this is not my best article but their is no need for formal writing and intelligent ideas. The opposition wouldn't be able to comprehend the non-monosyllabic words.
