Characters: Granny, Mom (Carol), Dad (Jerry), Drew (9), Holly (14)
Scene 1: It's four days before Christmas. Jerry and Carol Richards have just finished cleaning up the dinner table and are getting ready to drop the kids off at Granny's while they run a few errands. As they put on their coats and boots, nine-year-old Drew starts fussing because he really doesn't want to go hang out with Granny.
Drew: (groaning) "Do I have to go to Granny's?"
Mom: "Why don't you want to go to Granny's? She made fresh Christmas cookies and she thought you'd like to help decorate them tonight."
Drew: "But I don't wanna decorate cookies!"
Holly: "Aw Drew, you know you love Granny's cookies and she doesn't yell at you, like Mom does when you lick the frosting knife."
Mom: "Besides dear, your Granny would really enjoy your company. She's looking forward to seeing you."
Drew: "But I still don't wanna go!"
Dad: "Too bad, you have to go." (grabs mom and kisses her under the mistletoe that hangs from the doorway) "Your mother and I have some last minute Christmas shopping to do and you can't go with us."
Drew: "Eww, Yuck! Ok I'll go, just stop kissing!" (grabs his coat, and runs outside to the car)
Dad: (laughing) "Works every time!"
Scene 2: Granny, Holly and Drew are at the table in her small country kitchen. Granny has a gingerbread candle burning on the counter. The table is covered in cookies, colored frostings and all sorts of candies for decorating and Drew's face shows evidence that he's been tasting as he decorates.
Drew: (holding up an angel shaped cookie) "How do you like my angel Granny?"
Granny: "That's an adorable angel Drew, just like you."
Holly: "Ha! Some angel he is!"
Drew: "I am an angel. Granny says so!"
Holly: "Yeah, well only because she doesn't see how you are at home!"
Granny: "Now stop it you two. We still have a lot of cookies to decorate. Then maybe we can watch a movie or play a game."
Drew: "I wanna watch a movie Granny!"
Holly: "Of course you do, that's all you want to do is sit in front of the TV."
Drew: "That's not true!"
Granny: "That's enough! Now pass me the green frosting and the candy sprinkles so I can decorate this Christmas tree cookie."
(Holly passes the frosting and Drew attempts to pass the candy sprinkles, but drops them and spills them all over the floor)
Holly: "Drew!"
Granny: "It's ok, I'll get the broom."
(Granny stands up to go to the broom closet, but stops frozen in her steps)
Holly: "What's wrong Granny?"
Granny: (turning to look at Holly) "Do you hear that?"
