First Homeowner

Scene: It is six days before Christmas and close to five o'clock in the afternoon. Daniel Massey walks across the road from his house to his neighbors, the McCall's. Mrs. McCall has to work late and she has asked Daniel to keep an eye on her sons. Before Daniel can ring the doorbell, the front door swings open.

Jimmy: (Frowning) Hey.

Daniel: What's up?

Jimmy: Ma called, I don't need a baby sitter.

Daniel: Your Mom just wanted me to come over and check in on you three. Where are your brothers?

Jimmy: Sorry, Mr. Massey. In their rooms. So, you're not staying.

Daniel: I thought you guys might want to go get something to eat. Michelle has to work late too so I was thinking us guys would hit the road for a couple of hours.

Jimmy: That's cool, does Ma know?

Daniel: She does and is very okay with it. Get your brothers and your coats.

(Jimmy takes off down the hall calling to Elliott and Duncan. When they return, Jimmy is helping Duncan with his coat.)

Daniel: Where are we going?

Duncan: McDonald's!

Elliott: Wendy's!

Jimmy: Anywhere you want Mr. Massey. (He says, making a face at his brothers.)

Daniel: Okay, first, the name is Dan, Danny or Daniel. Drop the Mr. Second, let's drive around for a bit before we decide. Some of our neighbors have awesome Christmas lights up. Let's check them out while we figure out where we want to eat. (He stands back and opens the door.) Jimmy, do you have your house keys?

Jimmy: (Holding up a set of keys.) Gottem'

Daniel: Let's go.

(Once in the car, Daniel moves down the street. Some of their neighbors have a few lights up so they drive slowly down the road. As they turn the first corner, Jimmy looks at Daniel.)

Jimmy: Over on Knox that guy has this cannon in his yard. It was on the news. Can we go there first?

Daniel: A cannon? You mean like an army cannon.

Elliott: Yeah! But the guy who put it up rigged it to shoot snowballs. Giant snowballs! Can we go see?

Daniel: (Hesitantly.) Sure, just to check it out.

(They drive down Olive Road and before they get to Knox, Duncan taps Daniel on the shoulder.)

Duncan: Can we go back there first. The lights just came on and there's something in the front yard.

Daniel: Sure, let me turn around here.

(Daniel turns into a driveway where a house is for sale. He heads back to the house Duncan wants to see.)

Duncan: There it is! Whoa, wow! Cool!

(The house is tastefully illuminated all but that "something" Duncan was talking about.
