Timeless hairstyles and haircuts

Over the last century, women's hairstyles have gradually become more and more flexible and detailed. Where women once only had to choose between braiding their long locks or coiling it all into a heavy bun, we now have hundreds of options. We agonize over our hair these days; should we cut it? Curl it? Dye it? Perm it? And perhaps most important of all, in these busy, fast-paced times, is this question: "What style/cut will be the easiest and quickest to maintain?"

Good news! There are plenty of choices for your specific hair type. Styles and cuts that have never followed the waxing and waning of fashion trends. The following is a compilation of hair "do's" that are timeless, attractive, and most are very simple to care for.

The Bob

A shorter cut, this style works well on nearly anyone. When it first appeared, it was a very basic cut (and still can be, depending on your own preferences). It was a simple, shoulder-to-chin length cut, the same length all over. Over the years, it has been jazzed up quite a bit; it can now be done with layers, or left longer in the front. It looks good with or without bangs. It can be pulled back out of your face (for you busy moms), or it can be left down and looks great simply curled under. Easy to maintain, but easy to dress up, as well.

Long Layers

If you are not a fan of short hair, this one is a good choice for you. The layered look has passed through a lot of movie-star phases; Farrah Fawcett, Jennifer Anniston, Lindsay Lohan. As you can see, it's incredibly versatile. The styles you can achieve with long, layered hair are almost endless, as well. Braids, buns, curls, stick-straight. Fancy and intricate up-do's, or left down in its natural state. It even looks good simply tied back out of the way; pulled into a low pony-tail down the back, or up into a messy bun.

Cropped Short

This is another cut that has been basically the same since the beginning of its time; merely cut very short all over, usually left between 2-4 inches long. Sometimes it's called a pixie-cut or a Dorothy Hamil (this is very short in the back, a little longer on top- similar to a 'bowl cut' on boys), and sometimes it's even shorter than that and can be done in tight curls (i.e, Hallie Berry), or spiked or combed forward (like Keira Knightly in 'Domino'). You've probably seen this cut in older black-and-white films, done into head-hugging waves (called finger waves). These days, it's more popular to have it spiked up and sticking out all over. But it's simple
