What exactly would you consider to be an "effective" advertisement? Is it something that inspires the viewer to buy a product, or does it encourage them to enter your storefront first? I ran a small gaming business with a friend of mine for about a year, and we professionally drove it straight into the ground thanks largely in part to our lack of Effective Advertisements.
For your Ad to be considered Effective, it needs a few key components. The first of these would Have to be Creativity. We as a consumer nation are conditioned to see hundreds if not thousands of ads a day. We scan quickly for something of interest before simply shutting down until we are presented with the next ad. Having a catchy and creative advertisement shows your target audience that you're willing to take that extra step to get their attention. Better yet, when you make something that strikes an emotion rather then a simple interest, it has a much better chance of staying in their mind for longer then 15 minutes. Take anywhere from a day to a week to really research the advertisements of your competitors to get a feel about what you'll be up against. Just because someone went and spent a boat load of cash on an attractive ad shouldn't discourage you either, because with a little creativity and humor people will actually Enjoy when your ad comes on.
Remain Truthful. There are so many shady marketing tactics out there today, all we want as consumers is the truth. We all have enough trouble making our money, so when we spend it we want to know we're getting our moneys worth. If you're having a sale, make it a good one. Don't try to mislead them by putting %50 off then raising the initial price to much higher then your wholesale cost. We as business owners are out to provide our services to the public, not to rob them blind of their hard earned money. Using tactics like these will only come back to give you ruin in the end, so stay honest and open with your clients.
Glorify your storefront. This of course means you need to upkeep your storefront to the best of your ability, whether it's a brick and mortar business or a Web Site. Your place of business says more then you might think not only about your product but about you as well. When developing an advertisement, first identify all your weak points. Try to improve upon them, but if you can't then try to put them in a positive light. When it comes time to make your Ad, mention some of the best parts of your store but also include your weak points if you can properly dress them up. Don't give everything away however, being surprised as you walk through the door almost always has a lasting effect on people.
When it comes right down to it, your product and services are key. Without quality in these departments, no amount of effective advertisements will ever do you any good. Strive to be the best in your niche and to deliver what your customer pays for and then some. When you care for you clientele they become much more likely to chose your business over the local super-mart or corporate chain. Honesty and integrity should be your food and drink, but make sure to keep an eye on your numbers as well. We all need to do a little bit of hood winking to stay competitive, just do it with reason and moderation and you should be just fine
