Dungeons & Dragons is whatever you make it out to be. This is one of the most beautiful aspects of the game. I started playing version 3.0 about 6 years ago and have been playing ever since. I've played in games that would be considered extremely satanic, playing the roll of immensely evil masterminds out to ruin the world for the poor by opening portals to the hells and unleashing a storm of death and torment across the land. Torture and pillage were our bread and wine, as pain was the air we breathed. I've played in games as Holy warriors out to cleanse the plains of chaos and evil, with thick role-playing sessions full of political intrigue and uplifting moments. Saving a townsfolk from a corrupt government that exploits the people for their own amusement, then turning around and rebuilding the town from the ground up.
I've played in games as a group of mere travelers, out to explore the world for what it had to offer. No particular goals in mind, no good to perform or evil to deliver. Just pure, relaxing fun. D&D is a manifestion of the minds desire. If you obsess over darkness, pain and death, there is a game for you. If you enjoy the thought of love and peace, as well as benevolent gods and happy people, there is a game for you. If you just want to fight as an ancient gladiator for fame and glory, guess what...there's a game for you. So is Dungeons & Dragons satanic in nature? Perhaps, but I believe not. I don't see what is so satanic about wanting to go beyond the limits of our everyday lives, and to even indulge in some of the things we cannot do as civilized law abiding citizens. It's the idiots that can't determine fact from fiction that give the game a bad rep, yet if it weren't D&D that drove them it would be something else.
Dungeons & Dragons inspires creativity, thinking on your feet, co operation, humor, free thinking, and your overall imagination. It's nice to come home from a stressful day at work and unload a fireball on an unsuspecting camp of orc raiders that just attacked the local village.
Also, I don't really see how a game gets mixed up with a religion...whats the deal with that? I mean I understand that satanism is about freedom of self and the infinite potential of man, but I don't see the relation when you get straight down to it. Perhaps it's just the killing aspect of it, since people only see Satan when they see Satanic...oh well. I for one love the game and see no harm in playing it, unless you play with a harmful group of individuals. In this case it matters little if you're playing D&D or riding bikes, you're likely to end up with a negative impact. This game is for creative people who want to have fun on a rainy day. For more serious players, it can also be much much more....hey...perhaps that's where they get the correlation from....
