from using every piece of furniture you own for this purpose as well.
Your cat won't require a lot of elaborate or store bought toys to stay busy. Very simple inexpensive things can keep them on the go as much as they want to be. A favorite among cats are the little plastic balls with bells inside. They like swatting and chasing them around and the jingling noise further keeps them excited about the project. Likewise a ball of yarn to your cat is like finding the Holy Grail. They will spend more time than you dreamed possible unwinding it and rolling around it. Best of all the only thing you need to restart the fun is wind it back up inti a ball and let them go at it again. Having a few simple things they can swat at hung from somewhere is always a favorite as well. All you need to accomplish this is some string and any hollow object to dangle at it's bottom. If all else fails you can take an old toilet paper cardboard tube, put a few cat snacks inside of it, and tape two pieces of toilet paper over the holes. make sure that they can actually get through the T.P. otherwise no matter how much they love the smell of the snacks they will get bored and abandon it.
So long as you have yarn on hand, use it to play with your cat. Keep a few pieces tucked away around the house so wherever you are you can play together. All you need to do really is move the string around and they will go for it. Let them grab a hold of it and play tug of war as well. It's a good idea to let them win most of the time since this will keep them coming back to play on a regular basis.
Finally, if it's practical, get them a playmate. Two cats can have a ball playing together! They know how to entertain each other better than anyone else. They are good for each other for more than just play however as the additional companionship is actually good for their health. Whatever you choose to do your cat will appreciate it! They are a part of the family and ask for so little while giving so much that they are worth whatever we can do for them to stay happy healthy!
