Blazing in the heavens,
On the vast earth below,
The sun scorches the land,
And no living thing can grow.
The landscape is so bleak,
Parched and dusty dry,
From the village hovels,
Starving children cry.
The cattle are skeletal,
There is no grain for feed,
On this vast Dark Continent,
There is the greatest need.
Midst drought and famine,
The poor must deal with more,
Dictators and violence,
And never ending war.
How sad that a land,
So rich in many ways,
Suffers horrible devastation,
For so many of its days.

Poetry: Drought
by Jishi Santos
Drought
Drought loomed over the arid land
like a grey ghost
teasing of rain.
Yet nothing happened for
years
and the farmers hoped
Rain rain come out to play
The crops are in a drought these days
Beaten by the sun
Sometimes being a farmers just no fun
DROUGHT
It's been in all the news,
it's been all the news.
Montage:
grey crepe of leaves
in surrendered fields
grey arcs of skin
in
Blazing in the heavens,
On the vast earth below,
The sun scorches the land,
And no living thing can grow.
The landscape is so
Drought No More
Crackling thunder rumbles
Zigzagging fingers fire
Flying through tumults
Of storm cloud strewn sky
