Poetry: The void

Shadows in the Night

Slowly dripping wax; a flickering light

Casts shadows on the walls: moving, growing.

In every corner, in and out of sight,

They wander through the night, never slowing.

As midnight soon approaches, light flickers

Again, then dims. Wind rushes through windows;

The shadows start to move ever quicker,

As if they sense what's happening below.

For in the darkness, they can see a light,

Not shining from that candle, but alone.

A fading beacon there throughout the night,

It casts its glow on things that are not shown.

But as those shadows watch, no eyes, no face,

Both lights go out, the darkness takes their place.
