When donating a musical instrument, you are giving the gift of music. You are giving someone that would otherwise not had the opportunity to play,a chance.
Musical instruments are very expensive and because of this so much talent goes unknown. By donating that old flute or clarinet you used in high school, you give another a chance at musical freedom. You are opening doors that were once closed and introducing creativity to a place there may have been none. You may even be filling a void in someones life that they didn't know how to fill.
In todays society where curriculum is ever changing and budgets ever tightening, more and more creativity is being lost. School band classes are turning away children because they haven't got an instrument for them to play and parents on tight budgets can't provide one. Financing is often available but this is also not an option for the parent who isn't even sure if their child will stick with it. By donating an instrument, you are helping to keep creativity and artistic expression alive. You are giving someone a chance to feel accomplished and fulfilled by doing something they enjoy.
By donating that instrument, you may also be saving a life. Children often times get into trouble and go down the wrong paths because they have to much time on their hands with nothing constructive to occupy them. They start doing drugs and ruining their lives because they are bored. Parents often times can't afford to fill this free time with an instrument and may not even realize how important it would be to do so. The benefit you get from donating that old guitar could be knowing you give someone a choice and a parent an option.
Who knows..that person who received your donated instrument may become this century's next music icon or in the symphony orchestra. Then not only did you give the gift of music to one soul but to the whole world.
You can also benefit by knowing that the person who received or was able to use your donated instrument has learned that it was the act of kindness from a stranger that has allowed them to enjoy an instrument. They in turn may do the same thing one day for the greater cause of keeping creativity alive. For giving someone a path and a choice. They will remember what it was like to be handed something they never thought they would have and learning from it. They will remember how it took their mind away from their sorrows and brightened their world.
All of this for donating a musical instrument.
