So you've decided to take up motorcycling? Then take this quick quiz to see whether or not this hobby really is for you!
Question 1.
Would it be detrimental to your job if you were to regularly turn up for work with grease embedded into your hands and nails?
Answer. No - Go to question 2.
Yes Think carefully. Sure, that cute little Honda CBR 250 looks tidy, not to mention hot, but unless you earn a very good wage, chances are that you will be performing at least the basic maintenance on your chosen ride. At the very least you will need to change the occasional spark plug and change your own oil. Then, once you're truly in love with your chosen one, you simply won't want to leave it in the garage. Not just for a simple re-bore! Trust me, grease stains are for life.
Question 2.
Do you enjoy digging large holes in the ground into which you throw your money?
Answer. Yes Go to question 3.
No Think again! We all start riding thinking about the economy, the ease of parking and the relative freedom as we weave through the daily traffic. But, before too long, you'll start to notice those other CBR 250s. You know the ones I mean. Those sexy numbers with the pack racks, the chrome and clip-on handle bars? Accessories are endless and expensive. You will want to buy some. Then, one day, you'll start to notice the classic bikes. Oh, dear.
Question 3.
Do you see waiting in-line as a worthwhile cause?
Answer Yes Go to question 4.
No As you become more confident on your bike, something quite unexpected will happen; you will fall off. So be prepared for an occasional trip to casualty. Sure, it'll probably just be a sprained arm or a torn ligament. Probably that bit sticking out of your arm means nothing. Probably. And keep in mind that even the best leathers wear through from repeated low-speed slides. So be prepared to replace your safety gear regularly.
Question 4.
Does every conversation in the world have a space for motorcycling?
Answer Yes Go to question 5.
No What were you talking about?
Question 5
Are you still determined?
Answer Yes Read anything you can find. Go along to club meeting and meet people. Ask them questions. Have a good look and...go for it. You're right; if you need it explained, you'll never get it!
No Why did you read this far? You really need a hobby. Have you thought of motorcycling?
