No matter how fabulous you are, there is always room for improvement. That's why we make New Year's resolutions in the first place: in order to make ourselves better. But, once January second rolls around, most of those promises we've so optimistically made fall by the way side. So how can you make sure that won't happen this year?
Just Do It
The hardest part about exercise is just getting to the gym. And likewise the hardest part of running is just getting out the door. So if your goal is to loose ten pounds, make an appointment with yourself to go to the gym four times a week, and follow through. Don't put your emotions into it, just accomplish the task like you would the dishes, or cleaning the bathroom.
Set small goals
Make sure that you set small achievable goals that can build on each other to accomplish larger ones. If your resolution is to quit smoking and you can't kick the habit all in one day, (along with almost everyone else who ever had the addiction) do it a little at a time. Your first goal might be just to get more information from a smoking cessation, or by just lessening your habit a little more each week.
Keep Passionate
Make sure your resolutions are goals you believe you can accomplish, and become passionate about why you want to achieve them. Do plenty of research on why it's healthier not to smoke, or to loose weight, or even to spend time with your family. Become an advocate for others, and really focus on the benefits of what you want to achieve.
Take pleasure in Goals Accomplished
When you do accomplish something, reward yourself. It might be by watching a favorite television show guilt free, or by allowing yourself to go out and get your hair and nails done. But when you manage to accomplish something, make sure to reward yourself for a job well done.
Keeping New Year's resolutions can be difficult, but any goal can be accomplished if you are committed and really want to achieve it. Remember that old saying Rome wasn't built in a day, and by making appointments with yourself, setting small goals, keeping passionate, and rewarding yourself for goals accomplished, you can keep your New Year's resolution.
