How to plan a memorable Christmas party

Many people forget amid the search for the best turkey and all the trimmings that the main ingredient to a memorable Christmas party is congeniality. Take that away from the recipe and you may well have a Christmas party which is remembered for all the wrong reasons. It's the time of tidings of comfort and joy, rather than anything else, and congeniality is easier than many think. Trying too hard to please those guests may actually detract from the pleasure of the event, as the emphasis should be on providing them with a party atmosphere which spells Christmas as a special time of year shared with people we care about.

This article is written for all those thinking of organizing a Christmas party, because it's important to get the ingredients right, and to take your time and thought and direct it into positive energy. You always need more energy when entertaining, though if these are directed in the right direction, your Christmas party can be every bit as enjoyable for you, as a host.

*Venue.
*Food and drinks.
*Seating.
*Choosing the right entertainment.
*Choosing the right mix of people.
*Setting up the party.

Venue.

The reason this matters is because you have to think of every eventuality. If you are arranging a small party at home, then this is easier, though even here, think of accessibility, availability of transport for people who live away from the actual venue. Their inconvenience could make or break your party plans, and choosing a venue which suits the majority of your guests is the best way to go, rather than just picking the shortest straw.

Food and drinks.

This gets costly. How about getting others to contribute their share. If you have decided to provide food and drink, make things easier on yourself by having a buffet, since much of the preparation can be done easily in advance, and takes minimal effort at the party itself. Get friends to take plates of food around to people to make it more casual. Friends are always willing to chip in and help get things going. Be aware though that not everyone will drink. Although you may have a wonderful traditional punch, be sure that you cater also for those people who cannot drink alcohol. It is also a wise move to consider vegetarians, and a buffet is the easiest way to make them feel like they are not being left out, offering foods which they can help themselves to which do not involve meat.

The punch can be served at a special point in the party, and if you don't have enough glasses for your party, often you can
