Once again we are faced with a scandal involving a prominent public figure. Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich is accused of many crimes, including trying to sell the senate seat formerly held by Pres.-elect Obama. What is it with these guys and the law? How many other people have to be caught and arrested before these politicans get it? Are they that arrogant and stupid? The allegations in this particular instance are stuff you see in movies, but that seems par for the course these days.
The governor is responsible for appointing a senator to fill the vacancy left by Obama winning the White House. Blagojevich wanted to take this opportunity to make a little extra cash for his troubles. Instead of being honest and decent, he uses the office to try and better himself and his family. Mr. Blagojevich forgot a couple of key things while offering the senate seat to the highest bidder. One thing he forgot is that he was already under investigation for other alleged offenses. Wow! This guy is not very bright or he thinks he is above the law. The other thing he didn't remember is that he works for the taxpayers. He is the state of Illinois servant.
This is the thing I find the most troubling. Politicans these days have misunderstood what they are to do once elected. They are to serve the people who elected them. It is not a life-time job or something to do just to make some money, it is a public service. Early on in our country's history, men used to serve for a few years and return to their former jobs once they were finished. Not any more! These guys do it for the fame and fortune, they no longer serve our best interests. No wonder most of us are frustrated at the state of affairs, no one is looking out for the American people.
'Blago', as he is called by some in Illinois, does not understand what a governor is supposed to do. He committed crime after crime to once again show us how untrustworthy some public figures are. There are some who truly want to serve the people, but I believe they are in the minority. The Illinois governor adds another page to the book of public crooks. Thank you for giving us another example of a crooked politican. We appreciate another waste of taxpayer money in this time of economic trials. I beg us all to remember this and all other examples next time we step into a voting booth. These guys are to be working for us, not the other way around. Let's demand honest and respectful leaders.
