A fisherman sat in his little boat, patiently catching what fish the sea had to offer. Having left his hut in the village and walking down to the sea in the early morn, was a daily routine. Close to pulling in the last fish for his day - about mid-day - a large luxury, gleaming white boat headed his way. .
An unusual visitor, pulled up alongside the sole fisherman. A man with a head for business and only the bottom line on his mind.
The humble fisherman asked him to come aboard, clearing space for him amongst the fish at his feet, while beckoning him to sit. Bobbing in the wake of the bigger boat, the man told the villager he was doing his rounds and had not called into this cove before, but in passing, noticed the little boat, and wondered how the fish were biting?
After telling of his five factories all round the extensive coast line, and of his second yacht and three houses, he also spoke of the head ache and worry of always being on the move. He asked the villager if he would like to join his business, instead of trying so hard to catch such a few fish.
"Oh no!" was his unexpected reply. "You see that little hotel up there," the fisherman pointed to what looked like an old shack to the big man. "I only have to catch twelve fish each day for that place, and enough for my family meal." He looked at where some of the fish lay scattered in the bottom of his little boat, and with a broad grin added."Then I have time to do anything I want!"
Mmmm... the business man heard what this humble fisherman said, while leaving the little boat bobbing even more as his cabin cruiser left it's wake again. Now he knew how much all his success weighed heavy within, with no spare time. The day was slipping away, and he still had two port-of-calls to make at his factories.
This is a true story from the coast of Africa.
Drawing the line of attainment is where each and every one of us want it to be, and do our best to achieve it. It can vary from a successful marriage, to a trip to the other side of the world. True prosperity for some is money, but not always contentment and peace of mind.
The success-fulness as an artist is measured in many ways, just from the pleasure of one's efforts. A Master Builder, or Architect, could gain sheer enjoyment and satisfaction of a plan when everything comes together. The finished product of many workers, demonstrating their skill as craftsmen of their own trade, to create a skyscraper, a bridge, a tunnel, or just a home.
