I am the epitome of the "guy who has everything". For years, I have been told that I am nearly impossible to shop for, so as a service to holiday shoppers everywhere, I will present you with the definitive list of holiday ideas for the men in your lives who already have everything they need.
It may surprise alot of women to learn that men are not very materialistic. If we were, our underwear drawers would consist of more than just a few pairs of worn-out socks and a couple of hole-riddled briefs. Rather than fighting the holiday crowds at your local mall, consider giving the special men in your life the gift of an experience, rather than an object. These types of gifts can reflect a man's interests or hobbies. Why not call your local country club and book golf or tennis lessons? If the man is your life is an avid outdoorsman, rent a cabin for a week at a nearby hunting lodge. Not only will he relish the experience, he will undeniably be touched by your thoughtfulness.
Tickets to sporting events or concerts are also another great gift idea. Not only will he be excited to see his favorite team or band in action, he will be impressed by the fact that you remembered his favorite baseball team, rock and roll band, or even a Broadway musical. Best of all, by ordering two tickets, you'll naturally be invited to the event, resulting in an extra gift for yourself.
Men are alot more sentimental than most women think, and many of us prefer a gift that will create a lasting memory rather than a material object that will gather dust on a shelf. A romantic getaway at a secluded mountain resort, for example, will create memories for a lifetime, as well as provide both of you with recreational opportunities that you can both enjoy. If something like a resort getaway is out of your budget, show the special man in your life that you care by taking him to his favorite restaurant, or take the time to prepare his favorite home-cooked meal. Oftentimes, these simple but heartfelt gifts will say more to a man than a necktie or a bathrobe.
Speaking of neckties, I should also point out that there are several gifts that one should avoid. The last time I wore a tie was in eighth grade when I had to go to an aunt's funeral. These days, whenever I recieve a necktie, I am reminded that the person who gave me the gift didn't take the time to know me, or else they would realize that a tie is useless to me. Giving a tie to a man who doesn't dress up very often is no different than giving a carton of cigarettes to a non-smoker. Jewelry is another bad idea for a man's gift, since his particular taste may not be the same as yours. I have a drawer full of rings and watches that have been given to me over the years by various women in my life, who obviously never took time to notice that I do not wear watches or rings. Perhaps no gift is as thoughtless, yet commonly given, as gift cards. While the idea is that the person you buy the card for can purchase an item of his choice, it clearly shows a lack of thoughtfulness.
It is a sad fallacy that men don't like thoughtful, romantic, or sentimental gifts. Every man, from the wealthiest businessman to the simple blue-collar factory worker, appreciates a gift that shows that you care about his interests and personality.
