There is nothing sexier than watching a 60 year old Mick Jagger thrust his pelvis all over the stage and let me tell you, the Beatles are awesome as a one man Paul McCartney show. Clearly I'm being sarcastic in order to emphasize my point that old time rockers need to hang up the guitar and enjoy the glory years they were once blessed with.
There is a musical pandemic of old rockers trying to lengthen their careers and this would be fine if they could still rock out like the old days, but most of them simply cannot. Ozzy Osbourne is a good example of a rock legend who simply needs to sit back and indulge in his hard-earned money. He can barely talk let alone sing and yet he still insists on headlining Ozzfest tours andputting out sub-par albums like "Black Rain."
There are a lot of bands proving my point quite well right now: Gins n Roses, AC/DC, The Eagles, Motley Crue, etc. Great Bands with great histories, but all of which continue to release albums that dishonor their royal names. Obviously artists of their stature are going to be able to sell albums and fill up stadiums but why make money if you are destroying the quality of your music at the same time? There is rumour of a Led Zeppelin comeback, and while most fans jump to their feet in joy I simply question why? What would be the purpose of a Led Zeppelin comeback?
There are already one of the top 5 greatest bands of all time and the chances of them writing good quality music again is slim. I say this only because when you look at the bands mentioned above one will think of several classic hit singles. However it can be accurately stated that on each of their comeback albums there is nothing remarkably good or even worth mentioning. Sure Axel Rose worked on his album for 17 years, wow! But what does he have to show for it? A commercialized fake-hit in Chinese democracy and thats it.
Aging rock stars need to get a clue and retire for good. Just looking at the track records of great bands trying to return to the limelight should throw up a red flag for all class rockers thinking about coming back. Some say that these bands never left, and if that is the case, like with the Rolling Stones, guess what? They need to retire soon. I do not expect any of today's popular rockers to last until the year 2040 and if they do, they arew probably going to be terrible by then. If you are a legendary artist or band, let it be and enjoy your legacy instead of milking out your career. Old rockers need to stop trying to relive the glory days.
