How many dreams have shattered in the relentless hold of work,
How many nice people slowly, become the modern jerk,
And they dare to call it customer service,
When it is the server serving time,
We do this till we can retire, no longer in our prime.
Why do we make such sacrifices for possessions we don't need,
Have we lost our souls and purchased things, have we come to that much greed,
Or is it the supporting of our family,
That we put our bodies and our minds through the torture every year,
At least with admiration, we show up and we're sincere.
Have I broken the law to be round and captured, into a space small and tight,
Have I done something wrong sometime, to have my brain endure this unintelligent light,
Perhaps I've done no wrong,
Maybe I am just ungrateful, for this process feeds the mouths of those I love,
I just wish it didn't have to kill me inside, like angels and devils push and shove.
Have no worries I am getting numb, and all will be just fine,
Cause slowly I am losing my will, to know where to draw the line,
Another lifer in the making,
No, I will not sacrifice my soul, to the corporation seeking my life,
I will find a way to escape this hell, and still provide for my son and wife.
