Created on: December 11, 2008   Last Updated: December 18, 2008

Location: Suburban neighborhood in Florida.

Characters:

Rachel:an only child about eleven years old.

Julie: Rachel's babysitter, a teenager.

Erin:(sings) Oh Holy night, the stars.

Julie: Oh, no, please don't sing.

Erin: (sings) are brightly shining.

Julie hangs up on her. Erin comes running down the stairs.

Erin: Let's go Christmas caroling.

Julie: No.

Erin: Please.

Julie: No, I don't want to walk up to some stranger's door and start singing.

Erin: But it is just in the neighborhood.

Julie: No

They both look at the Christmas tree in the room. All the sparkling white lights, and the red and gold ornaments.

Erin: Come on.

Julie: Okay, but your going to have to sing for the both of us. I am just going to chime in with a hum or something.

Erin: Okay great.

Erin runs and gets their coats. She then runs upstairs to get two large red folders. She goes back downstairs, and hands one to Erin.

Julie: What are these for?

Erin: Sheet music.

Julie: Where's the sheet music.

Erin: We don't need them, it just makes us look authentic.

Erin and Julie get up in their shorts and tank tops and walk out the door. The sun is shining and it's warm outside. They walk up to the neighbor's front door, and ring the doorbell. Noone answers. The ring again. Noone.

Julie: Okay, lets go home.

Erin: No, lets keep trying.

They walk to the next neighbor. Noone answers. They go to about six different houses and noone answers.

Julie: Sorry, but I guess we should do this after dinner or something. People are still at work.

Erin: Look lets try this place.

Julie: Who lives here?

Erin: I don't know.

They look around at the torn up yard.

Julie: They must be redoing the grass or something.

They get up on the porch and ring the doorbell. They don't hear one, but a dog starts barking. They look at each other with fear. They hear banging and clanging from inside the house. They look at each other and start backing up. The door opens. An older man with a few teeth is standing in front of them in her night gown.

Man: Are you from the pharmacy?

Erin and Julie look at each other.

Man: Well, watcha waiting for.

Erin opens her folder and motions Julie to come with her. They stand in front of the man and Erin starts singing Silent Night. Julie comes in with the words that she knows, and hums the rest. The man just stared at them. They finished up. And they were staing at him, and he was smiling at them.

Man: I was wondering where my holiday spirit went. Thank you so much!

Come give me a hug.

The man came out to give them a hug, and they stepped back. Then the gave him a little hug.
Erin and Julie: Merry Christmas.
Old Man: Merry Christmas! Would you like to come inside.
Erin: Thank you but we have to be going. We are caroling in the whole neighborhood.
Julie roles her eyes.
Julie: Thank you though, Merry Christmas.
