Hopefully, you haven't decided to break up with your girlfriend just so you don't have to worry about a Christmas present. Everybody has trouble choosing presents, so it's definitely not a good excuse. Presents don't need to be expensive to be cherished and enjoyed. It's also nice to includea second, less expensive gift such as some candy or other little trinket, preferably something that reminds you of her.
Girls in the 21st century are interested in many different things, so the trick is simply to pay close attention to her likes and dislikes. For instance, is she an avid reader or does she enjoy a good book once in a while? If so, it shouldn't be hard to choose a nice book for her. Teen girls and some older ones too, are very excited over the new Twilight books. If she has already seen the first movie, you could get her the second book in the series. Just make sure she doesn't already own it.
Who does your girl admire and talk about? You do talk, don't you?
There may be gifts that are specifically tied to her hero or heroine. Does she rave about Rachael Ray? Then a magazine subscription might make a good gift that would remind her every month of your thoughtful Christmas present. You can purchase a subscription at the Rachael Ray Website. Find out who she likes, then do a search to see what's available that is specific to that person. Many famous people have their own websites and magazines. Oprah is another good magazine idea. You can purchase her magazine in a store or order it online at Oprah.com. Or better yet, get her tickets for the show if she is a fan.
There are many television series that are targeted to female fans. Does your girl watch, TiVo, and talk about a particular show? Why not buy her a season on DVD? There are many TV series already on DVD, such as Smallville, Charmed, Army Wives, Gilmore Girls, Grey's Anatomy and Boston Legal, to name a few. Just google the series name followed by a comma and the letters DVD, and you'll find what's available.
Does your girl collect anything? Many females are avid collectors. It might be angel figurines, porcelain dolls, stuffed animals or rosaries, but whatever the collection, a new addition is always a thrill, especially if it's hard to find.
Does your girlfriend have a pet she's crazy about? A gift for her pet would make a good second gift for her. First, you need to know a little bit about the pet. Not all pet owners give their pet treats and not all pets enjoy pet toys. These are things you have to pay attention to or ask someone about, preferably not your girlfriend. Never take the element of surprise out of your gift-giving.
Girls also like to be pampered, so a nice massage gift certificate would be great for girls who have a lot of stress or very little time for themselves. Always add the second little gift of flowers, candy or trinket as I mentioned above. No matter what the primary gift is or how much it cost, a second inexpensive but thoughtful gift can make her feel extra special in your eyes.
If your girl is a dancer or wants to get in shape, there are many dance/exercise videos available now, some of them by the pros seen on "Dancing With The Stars." Be careful with this one though, she could think you see her as out of shape. We don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
Those who can afford to splurge on their ladies might consider a year's membership to an athletic club, such as Curves, which is specifically for women, so you don't have to worry about those other guys stepping into your territory. You can find the nearest location and check on special offers at the Curves website. This gift is only appropriate if you know that she is wanting it. Again, we don't want any hurt feelings.
You could also step out of your comfort zone and sign up as a couple for some dance lessons. Ballroom dancing is really quite popular right now. Think what fun it will be to dance like a pro!
Are you older and in a more serious relationship but not quite ready to pop the question? Diamonds can still be a good choice. There are many types of rings with diamonds, such as a birthstone ring with tiny diamonds on the side. Diamond earrings and necklaces are also a good, safe choice.
The most important thing about gift-giving is to "know your woman." A gift chosen because it's on sale or because your brother gave one just like it to his girlfriend is not actually choosing a gift, it's getting out of choosing a gift. Don't mistakenly think that we are easily fooled, we're not. Girls know whether or not you spent personal time deciding on a gift, or whether you accomplished the whole process in about an hour.
You should make the decision of a Christmas gift for your girlfriend based on your observations about your girl. Afterwards, you will have a happy girlfriend, which will probably enhance your relationship. Plus, you have the added benefit of accomplishing a goal you thought was out of your reach.
In a nutshell, here are the three things you need to remember...
1) research, pay attention, and ask her family members questions when needed
2) give your options some thoughtful contemplation
3) Give the Perfect Gift, and don't forget the second little gift as a thoughtful gesture of your devotion
Have a Merry Christmas and Congratulations!
