The Return of the Grim Reaper
...and that's when I saw him:
The Reaper, first name Grim.
He approached me with a smile.
I hadn't seen him in a while.
He waved his hand and greeted me
In that friendly Reaper style.
He said: "my friend, it's been too long."
I said: "sorry, I must move along."
He replied: "sorry, but this stay I must prolong.
So correct me if I'm wrong
"You used to be quite happy, but there was a change in tide.
You lost your self-assurance and lost your sense of pride.
Nothing seemed to cure your vicious pain inside.
Nobody would respect you, instead they only chide.
But it wasn't all as bad as I may have just implied-
You had friends with whom you would confide.
But when they betrayed you, you had nowhere left to hide.
So you wondered:
Well, maybe if I died
Every day I told you about the relief of suicide
You considered the option, but still never complied.
You said you were miserable- had you lied?
Life or death: which do you decide?"
I stared hard at the Reaper- his eyes I could not see
I told him: "Grim, I want you to listen to me.
Life is not always filled with glee,
But that doesn't mean I can't try to be happy,
And I can still be who I want to be.
So if I should wake before I die, don't kill me.
Now get the f* away from me."
It was a command, not a plea.
