Everyone wants to live in beautiful and pleasant surroundings. Especially ones home is the center of attraction for every individual. We want to see our homes as something special, something pleasing to the mind and heart and something which gives us new hope and energy to face the problems of the world. With this view in mind, we try to improve the look of our homes as much as possible.

A house is just a building made of wood or mud or bricks and cement. It becomes a home when feelings and emotions showing a sense of belonging are attached to it. The care and attention that go into a house in order to express our love for it turn a simple house' into a home'.

A good way of beautifying a place is to grow flowers and vegetable plants there. Most people think that a large plot of land is needed for a home-garden. It is not so. A home garden can be set up in a small place. In many cases people simply hesitate, not on account of lack of space but for lack of imagination. Plants can be grown even in houses which are totally packed by flours and partitions walls. All such places, flowers and vegetables can be grown in flower pots or in wooden crates and in empty tins filled up with soil. The flower pots may be kept indoors where sunlight may reach them for a reasonable time.

The presence of flowers and greenery adds to the beauty of a place. Even a passing glance at the plants in the early morning cheers up the people and freshen them for the whole day. We find ourselves in better spirits to face the challenges of our work. The plants absorb Carbon Dioxide gas which we exhale. They in return release Oxygen without which we cannot live. So, for a healthier living, it is necessary that we grow plants in and around our houses.

Home gardening has its economic benefits, too. With a little effort and attention we can produce enough vegetables for use in the kitchen. The vegetables which we purchase from the market cost us a lot. Our home gardens ensure that we get fresh vegetables right at the time when we need them.

The belief that gardening is something costly, requiring a lot of time and money and that it is just a fashion is no longer true. Instead of costing much, hum-gardening cuts down the kitchen expenses. It does not require a lot of investment or special tools. It also does not require any special skill. Just a little spare time on weekly holidays is good enough for setting up a beautiful home-garden. A few minutes spent on tending the plants give us ideal exercise for health.

Home gardening provides a change in daily work. Especially the ladies find it an enjoyable change to work in home-gardens, in pleasant surroundings. They get the chance of coming out of the kitchens or living rooms and do something different from cooking, washing, sewing or caring for the babies. A little tie spent in the company of plants would cheer them up enough to do the household work in a better way.

If there is sufficient space for a lawn, a home garden is an ideal place for sitting with the family members. The children are delighted to play on grass. You can meet your friends in the home garden and show your ability, taste and imagination. Your friends and relatives would like to follow your example and set up their own home gardens. In this way, every house in our dear homeland will offer a cheerful look.
