Is there a place in your home where you feel most relaxed and at ease? For most people, that place is their bedroom and why shouldn't it be? It is the first place we see when we wake up and the last place we see when we go to bed at night.

For many people, a bedroom isn't just a place to sleep, a bedroom is their own private sanctuary. A place for a person to escape to. If you need help creating your own personal sanctuary in your bedroom, here are a few tips that might help to make your bedroom more then a room with just a bed:

1) Paint your room in a color that you feel is calming and soothing. For example, light blues and greens as well as neutral colors such as gray, white and silver are all considered calming and cool colors. These colors are easy on the eyes and can help a person to relax.

2) Have nice fluffy pillows along with comfortable bedding. Down comforters as well as down pillows can make a simple bed feel absolutely luxurious, not to mention extremely soft.

3) Purchase a small waterfall. There are many stores out there that sell small electric waterfalls. They are quite compact and can fit easily on a nightstand or dresser. The sound of trickling water while you lay in bed can easily send you and your imagination to another place and time.

4) Have the proper lighting. Lighting is of the utmost importance when creating a relaxing bedroom. Install light dimmers that way you can adjust the lights or lamps in your room according to how you're feeling. You can make them brighter for when you feel like reading or perhaps a little bit dimmer so that you can just relax and lay in bed.

5) Hang up proper window treatments such as stylish curtains or perhaps wooden blinds (these are very popular at the moment). Having blinds or curtains gives you the control over how much natural light you wish to let into your bedroom, whether it be wonderful streams of light or perhaps just enough to brighten up your room.

These are only a few simple tips that can help you in creating a relaxing and serene atmosphere in your bedroom. There are so many other things that can be done, but it is all based on what makes you feel calm and relaxed. Once you've accomplished getting your bedroom to feel like your own personal sanctuary, sit back, relax, and enjoy. After all, you deserve it.
