All I want for Christmas
Scene: Emprovished part of the city.
(Stage right) There is a light post where the two boys are standing.
(mid-stage) There is a door that can be seen.
(Stage left) There is a woman sitting in front of her television.
Characters: Peter is a skinny boy of ten wearing a thin green shirt with cut off sleeves. He is seen without any slippers.
Otep is a fat jolly boy of ten wearing a red shirt that is too small for him.
Mary is the old lady that sits in her chair. She is seen wearing expensive clothes.
Peter and Otep: (in repeatedly and are often off-key) We wish you a Merry Christmas! We wish you a merry Christmas! We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
Mary: (shouts) Go away!
(stage whisper) Such pesky children, always bothering me when all I want to be is left alone.
Peter: Let's sing again.
Otep: But you heard her, she wants us to leave.
Peter: We just need to sing something she likes.
Otep: I don't know, Peter. She sounded mad.
Peter: (holds the can that held their money) We need to make more money tonight. It's almost Christmas!
Otep: We can always do this again tomorrow. I'm hungry, let's go home. My nanay would have food prepared by now.
Peter: I don't want to go home yet. I'll stay here and keep singing. (starts to sing Silent Night)
Otep: Oh, Peter, you never give up, do you?
Peter: Not until she comes out and gives us something. (sings where he left off)
Otep: (joins Peter in singing Silent Night)
Mary: (angry) (opens her door) Do you children never listen? Go away or I'll call the police to send you home! (closes the door) (stands behind it with her hand on the doorknob)
(stage whisper) Who ever said it's a merry Christmas? Not everyone is happy this time of the year!
Otep: Peter, let's go. I told you she was mad.
Peter: I guess you are right. (looks very disappointed) I guess I can't buy slippers this year too.
Otep: And I have to wear my brother's hand-me-downs. (tugs at the end of his shirt)
Peter: But there is always next year, right?
Otep: And there's tomorrow too. We can come back. We just need to sing better that's all.
Peter and Otep walk away singing Merry Christmas at the top of their lungs.
Mary opened the door. Stared at the two as they walked away and smiles.
Scene 2: Same set
Peter comes in with a slipper on his left foot and Otep comes in with the right slipper on. The stop at Mary's house again and start singing.
Mary stands up and opens the door.
Peter and Otep prepare to be scolded.
Mary hands Peter a pair of green slippers. Peter looks at the slipper in awe.
Mary: What are you waiting for? For Christmas to be over?
Peter: Oh thank you, Ms. Mary!
Mary folds out a shirt with a Christmas tree design and hands it over to Otep.
Otep: (wears the shirt over his own) Thank you, Ms. Mary. Now everyday's Christmas!
Peter and Otep: (sings) Thank you, thank you, Ms. Mary you're the best, thank you!
