Create a sanctuary in your bedroom

Creating a sanctuary in your bedroom.

Creating a sanctuary out of your bedroom can be a very important factor to relaxation, restful sleep and conversely mental and emotional health. Your bedroom as a child was a very "you" room, with all of the things that belonged to you in it. It was not always neat, or necessarily the way that you have wanted it or the way that you wish to have it as an adult. The "you"-ness of that childhood room however is the ideal that I am trying to evoke. Your bedroom should be where you spend the largest portion of your decorating budget, in comparison to any other room of the house. Make it ideal. Even if you have to purchase it piecemeal or you have to save up for your dream bedroom, you will benefit largely from the attention that you devote to this enterprise.

Paint or wallpaper is a great way of making a room your own. Framed posters, artwork, or pictures are important secondary furnishings, they are key to the visual impact and the "feel" of your room. They should be of things you like, framed concert posters, or reproductions of paintings make beautiful additions to your room without the cost of more expensive artwork. To give the walls texture hanging baskets or wall decorations can compliment your room dcor also. The furnishings should if not match, then compliment each other in an harmonious and eclectic way. Storage in the closet should have shelves or other closet organizers to help keep your closet neat and tidy. Even though it is behind a door you do not want a jumbled pile of stuff falling into your sanctuary every time you need to go into your closet. Lastly unless you absolutely must have one in there excluding a television from your sanctuary may be just the thing to make your sanctuary a peaceful and relaxing place to restore your body mind and spirit. Television is often used as a barrier between people to preclude or replace conversation. Also having a television in your bedroom will bring the world into your bedroom with its news, dramas, and noise. Not to mention rritation over who has the remote or when to turn off the tv and go to sleep. None of those things is either welcome nor needed in a sanctuary.
