Scene One: Inspiration
A small kitchen, late Christmas Eve. The whole house is dark and there are no Christmas decorations to be seen. 16-year old Tiffany is sitting with her head in her hands.
Tiffany: (whispers to herself through soft sobs.) This sucks. By far the worst Christmas ever. There has to be something I can do. (sniffles and sobs) Please, God, I have to do something. I don't care if he hates Christmas, I don't care if he hates you...WE don't. And WE deserve to have a Christmas.
(She sits there a while, in quiet contimplation. Suddenly a smile crosses her face, and her tears stop.)
Tiffany: (elated) That's IT! What a wonderful idea! They'll love it!
(She immediately gets up and starts gathering items: a broom, scissors, an empty cardboard box, and a plastic tote from her room. She get's to work, drawing, cutting, and singin to herself.)
Tiffany: (cheerfully) We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a Mer...
Derrick: (interrupting her) What on earth are you doing?
Tiffany: Sorry, did I wake you? Go back to bed.
Derrick: Nah. I've been awake. Can't sleep knowing he stole Christmas from us. Tomorrow's gonna suck.
Tiffany: No it wont.
Derrick: How can you say that? He wouldn't let Mom buy a tree, he said there wasn't going to be presents. And Jason overheard him tell Mom she couldn't even buy a ham. What could happen in 7 hours to change that?
Tiffany: You'll see. But you'll ruin it if you don't go back to bed.
Derrick: Whatever. Yur nuts. (walking away shaking his head.)
Tiffany: God rest ye merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay.....
(Scene closes with Tiffany cutting the cardboard singing to herself again.)
Scene two: The Christmas Spirit is Strong
(Opens in the same kitchen, with Tiffany again singing.)
Tiffany: Its beggining to look a lot like Christmas... here in my kitchen. Stockings are hung on each door, (she twirls and sticks the socks on the cupboard doors with tape) and they will fall on the floor. (chuckles to herself)
Tommy: (walks in yawning and rubbing hhis chin.) Are you serious? Yur gonna be in so much trouble!
Tiffany: Oh hush! You're going to jinks it. Why can't you boys just leave me alone? I'm trying to do something special here...go back to bed. And tell Garret to stay there too.
Tommy: This isn't gonna go over well. You know how mad he's gonna be.
Tiffany: I don't care. He can spit nails... He's NOT ruinning our Christmas!
Tommy: You can make yur silly little tree. Its not gonna change anyhting.
Tiffany: Just watch...you'll see.
(Tommy walks off, shaking
